Division of Research and Innovation

The Division of Research and Innovation (DRI) supports research, creative work and scholarly activity at A&M–San Antonio. Its services include identifying potential funders, interpreting grant requirements, assisting with proposal budgets and reviewing proposal narratives. Learn more about DRI’s services and staff.

Researchers can explore funding through the University’s GrantForward subscription, Grants.gov and agency-specific resources such as the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. DRI also offers consultation to help identify funding opportunities that match a project’s goals. Visit the Developing Your Research Ideas page for resources and assistance.

Complete the Intent to Apply form once you have a research project idea and have identified a potential funding opportunity. You do not need every project detail finalized before completing the form. This step allows DRI to connect you with proposal-development support. Access the form through From Research Proposal to Submission.

Contact DRI at least three weeks before the sponsor’s deadline. Complex proposals, including those involving subcontracts or cost sharing, may require additional preparation time. Review the proposal preparation and submission timelines early in the planning process.

Yes. DRI can connect researchers with consultation and proposal-review resources, including external consultants. Support may include refining research questions, assessing alignment with a funding opportunity and improving proposal clarity. DRI works with Texas A&M Sponsored Research Services (SRS) to support proposal preparation and electronic submission. Assistance includes application forms, proposal assembly and coordination of institutional review. DRI’s post-award office works with principal investigators, departments and Sponsored Research Services on account setup, expenditure oversight, budget adjustments, cost sharing, invoicing, reporting and award closeout. Visit the Post Award page for award-management resources.

The Office of Research Compliance provides guidance on human subjects research, animal care, biosafety, export controls, financial conflicts of interest and responsible conduct of research. Contact the Institutional Review Board at irb@tamusa.edu for guidance about research involving human participants. A&M–San Antonio uses Cayuse to submit and manage IRB protocols electronically. Links to IRB resources and Cayuse are available on the Research Compliance page.

Yes. Undergraduate and graduate students participate in research at A&M–San Antonio. The University’s Student Research resources page helps students explore faculty research mentors, opportunities to present or publish their work and research opportunities outside the University.
